Courgette n’a rien d’un légume, c’est un vaillant petit garçon qui vit seul avec sa maman qui aime beaucoup la bière, et qui «part au ciel» par sa faute. Sa vie prend un nouveau tournant quand il atterrit dans un foyer au milieu d’autres gosses blessés par la vie. Là, entre autres, il y a Simon, qui joue au dur pour tenir le coup, Béatrice dont la mère a été reconduite à la frontière, et Camille, la fillette garçon manqué qui trouve la plus belle forme de résilience à son grand malheur: sourire aux autres. Avoir une bande de copains, tomber amoureux … Quand on a 10 ans, il y a tant de choses à découvrir et à apprendre. Et pourquoi pas même apprendre à être heureux.
