SUMMARY:VERTICO AVANT PREMIÈRE
DESCRIPTION:Vertico est le premier film expérimental produit par Hélium Films. \nCe projet est né à l’initiative du Festival Animatou\, qui souhaitait impliquer tous les illustrateurs/illustratrices de ses visuels dans la réalisation d’un film d’animation expérimental\, pour leur faire découvrir des techniques autres que le dessin animé.\nLe projet\, conduit en partenariat avec Animatou et la HEAD-Genève\, a reçu le soutien de la Ville de Genève et de la RTS. Un remerciement particulier aux figurants du public qui se sont prêtés au jeu. \nAvec | With Peggy Adam\, Adrienne Barman\, Alex Baladi\, Julien Käser\, Cécile Koepfli\, Willy Ténia\, Tom Tirabosco\, Pierre Wazem et Buster Yañez. \n\nEn octobre 2015\, à l’occasion du 10ème anniversaire du Festival Animatou\, Hélium Films\, en coproduction avec la RTS a imaginé un atelier avec les créateurs et créatrices des affiches des précédentes éditions du Festival pour réaliser un court métrage d’animation expérimental\, Vertico\, dans les locaux du Commun au Bâtiment d’art contemporain (BAC) à Genève. \nParmi les treize illustratrices / illustrateurs suisses sollicités\, neuf ont répondu à l’appel – Tom Tirabosco\, Pierre Wazem\, Alex Baladi\, Peggy Adam\, Adrienne Barman\, Julien Käser\, Cécile Koepfli\, Buster Yañez et Willy Ténia. Délaissant leur stylo\, ces derniers ont exploré des techniques d’animation directe comme l’animation de sable et de graines\, ou la pixilation d’objets et de personnes. La supervision technique et la conception artistique du projet ont été assurées par les réalisateurs suisses Elie Chapuis et Lynn Devillaz. \nVertico est constitué d’une douzaine de séquences animées. Une grande place a été laissée à l’improvisation et à l’expérimentation\, avec pour consigne de faire apparaître un défilement vertical et deux lignes verticales parallèles. Le montage a été confié au réalisateur Steven Woloshen (Prix Vertico 2015 pour le meilleur montage de la compétition expérimentale Labo du Festival Animatou) et la création de la bande sonore du film au musicien genevois Franz Treichler (The Youngs Gods). \nAu final: un film kaléidoscopique à découvrir\, détonnant et puissamment inspiré! \n\nTo commemorate Animatou’s 10th anniversary in October 2015\, Hélium Films in coproduction with RTS conceptualized a workshop involving the creators of past Festival posters in the making of Vertico – a short experimental animated film produced in the “Commun” space of Geneva’s Contemporary Art Building. Among the thirteen Swiss illustrators who were summoned\, nine responded to the call: Tom Tirabosco\, Pierre Wazem\, Alex Baladi\, Peggy Adam\, Adrienne Barman\, Julien Käser\, Cécile Koepfli\, Buster Yañez and Willy Ténia.The artists relinquished their pens and explored direct animation techniques such as sand and seed animation\, and pixilation of objects and people. Swiss directors Elie Chapuis and Lynn Devillaz provided technical supervision and oversaw the project’s artistic design. \nVertico is made up of a dozen animated sequences. Ample room was left for improvisation and experimentation; the only requirements were to include vertical scrolling and two parallel vertical lines. The task of editing was given to filmmaker Steven Woloshen\, who won the 2015 Vertico Award for best editing in Animatou’s experimental competition\, “Labo.” The film’s soundtrack was created by Genevan musician Franz Treichler from the group The Young Gods. \nCome discover this jarring kaleidoscopic and powerfully inspired film!

Au début\, ce festival était minuscule\, mais s’enorgueillit depuis d’être la plus importante manifestation consacrée à l’animation au Québec. Les Sommets comptent des sections compétitives et sont d’envergure internationale\, accueillant des invités d’ici et d’ailleurs. Surtout\, ils sont un lieu de rassemblement pour tous les membres du milieu. Les artisans\, l’industrie et le public se rencontrent autour d’un objectif commun: célébrer l’un des secteurs d’excellence de la culture québécoise et canadienne. \n\n\n\n\nThe Cinémathèque québécoise and its Sommets du cinéma d’animation\nEver since the Cinémathèque québécoise was founded in 1963\, it has always granted an important place to animated film. To this end\, it has gathered together an invaluable collection of animated films and related artefacts such as drawings and marionettes. The Cinémathèque also regularly holds screenings that feature animation in all its forms. Fifteen years ago\, the Cinémathèque enriched its treasure chest of animation by creating the “Summits of Animated Cinema” – Les Sommets du cinéma d’animation. The Festival started out tiny\, but can now boast that it’s the largest event dedicated to animation in Quebec. The Sommets have competitive categories and are international in scope\, drawing in guests from near and far. But most importantly\, the event is a gathering point for members of the animation community. Artists\, industry insiders and the public\, all meet around a common goal: to celebrate one of Quebec and Canadian culture’s areas of excellence.

Il est également producteur\, réalisateur\, scénariste\, auteur\, historien du cinéma et critique. Il a été jusqu’en 2005 à la tête du studio d’animation du Programme français de l’ONF et a produit de nombreux films qui ont reçu plus de 150 prix\, dont l’Ours d’or du court métrage au festival de Berlin (Âme noire de Martine Chartrand)\, l’Ours de cristal au Festival de Berlin (Nuit d’orage de Michèle Lemieux) et le Cristal d’Annecy (Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse de Regina Pessoa) ainsi que 4 prix Jutra pour le meilleur film d’animation. \nMarcel Jean has served as artistic director for the Annecy Festival since 2012 and as general director for the Cinémathèque québécoise since 2015. He is also a producer\, director\, scriptwriter\, author\, film historian and critic. Until 2005\, he was head of the animation studio for the French Program at the National Film Board of Canada. While working there he produced a plethora of films that garnered over 150 awards\, including the Berlin Festival’s Golden Bear for best short film for Black Soul by Martine Chartrand\, the Berlin Festival’s Crystal Bear for Stormy Night by Michèle Lemieux\, a Cristal at Annecy for Tragic Story with Happy Ending by Regina Pessoa\, and four Jutra awards for best animated film. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLa ville\, le monde\, l’univers \nCe programme regroupe des films canadiens de ces quinze dernières années. Pour la plupart\, ceux-ci témoignent de la volonté des animateurs québécois d’aborder des sujets sociaux\, politiques ou historiques. Ils montrent bien la diversité des techniques et des esthétiques qui caractérise\, de tout temps\, l’animation canadienne. Placés au coeur du programme\, Isabelle au bois dormant de Claude Cloutier et Flux de Christopher Hinton agissent comme un intermède humoristique. \n\n\n\n\nCity\, world\, universe\nThis program is a collection of Canadian shorts from the last fifteen years. Most of the films speak to the desire of Québécois animators to engage with social\, political and historical subjects. They illustrate the diversity of techniques and aesthetics that have historically characterised Canadian animation. At the centre of the program\, Sleeping Betty by Claude Cloutier and Flux by Christopher Hinton provide a humorous interlude.
