Plus de 250 films en compétition mais aussi des films de fin d’études\, des avant premières\, des rétrospectives\, des regards singuliers sur l’animation mondiale\, ainsi que des projections nocturnes en plein air sur un écran géant.\nLe Best of Annecy Kids 2018 rassemble des courts métrages drôles\, émouvants et poétiques\, issus de la sélection officielle du Festival Annecy 2018\, qui raviront les enfants dès 5 ans. Ce programme est précédé de la bande-annonce HueBR de Ricardo Davoz\, école Melies de São Paulo. \nAs the first international competitive film festival and a major reference for all professionals in animation\, Annecy has been a showcase for the masterpieces of animation for over 50 years\, with more than 250 films in competition. Sous l’impulsion de Bruno Edera\, ils fondent avec Gisèle et Nag Ansorge le Groupement Suisse du Film d’Animation (GSFA). Stimulés par le visionnement de nombreux films d’animation découverts à Annecy\, ils décident de se réunir dans une arrière-cour à Carouge pour faire leurs premiers pas. Après quelques essais\, des encouragements et l’aide d’auteurs confirmés\, ils réalisent leurs premiers films… Peu à peu le film d’animation deviendra leur activité principale… \nThe GDS studio was born from the common passion of three artists for illustration\, drawing and painting. At the instigation of Bruno Edera and together with Gisèle and Nag Ansorge\, they founded the Swiss Animation Association (GSFA in French). The many animation films they watched at Annecy Festival drove them to take the plunge into animation after meeting up in a Carouge backyard. Les animaux se transforment peu à peu en humains et la maison se change en monde cauchemardesque.\nInspiré du fait divers de la Colonie Dignidad. \nMaria\, a young woman finds refuge in a house in the south of Chile after escaping from a sect of German religious fanatics. She is welcomed into the home by two pigs\, the only inhabitants of the place. Like in a dream\, the universe of the house reacts to maria’s feelings. The animals transform slowly into humans and the house becomes a nightmarish world.\nBased on the true story of Colonia Dignidad.

Le but était de rassembler le plus grand nombre d’animateurs/trices suisses pour donner à voir toute la variété du cinéma d’animation suisse contemporain et de permettre une diffusion ici et à l’étranger. \nIn order to honor the GSFA – Swiss Animation Association – for its 50th anniversary\, over 100 Swiss animators\, directors\, sound designers\, musicians and character designers were given “carte blanche” with no restrictions on style or content to create an animated omnibus film to be shown around Switzerland and abroad consisting of fifteen short films. All genres are represented\, from B movies to Z movies so bad that they’re good\, in the purest tradition of midnight cinema. \n\n\n\n\n\nAMERICAN POP\n\n\n\n\nBAKSHI RALPH | USA | VoEn / StFr | 1981 | 96’ \n\n\n\n\nA la fin du 19ème siècle\, la veuve d’un rabbin assassiné quitte la Russie impériale pour New York avec son jeune fils\, Zalmie. Peu après leur arrivée\, ce dernier est recruté par Louie\, un artiste de cabaret burlesque. Sa carrière dans le monde du spectacle et celle des trois générations suivantes vont croiser la grande histoire de la musique populaire nord-américaine.\nAprès The Lord of the Rings\, Ralph Bakshi souhaitait revenir à un projet plus personnel avec American Pop. Magnifiquement dessiné en rotoscopie\, le film compile plus d’une cinquantaine de chansons de 1930 à 1980\, issues de tous les genres musicaux. \n\n\nIn Imperial Russia during the late 19th century\, the widow of an assassinated rabbi and her young son Zalmie escape to New York. Shortly after their arrival\, Zalmie is recruited by Louie\, a performer at a burlesque cabaret. His career in the show world\, and those of the three generations that come after him\, are intertwined with the epic story of American popular music.\nFollowing The Lord of the Rings\, Ralph Bakshi wanted to return to a more personal project with American Pop. The film is magnificently drawn using the technique of rotoscoping and its extensive soundtrack contains more than fifty tracks of all types of music from 1930 to 1980.

Cette sélection est donc totalement subjective. Bien plus de films devraient en faire partie. Beaucoup se sont avérés introuvables ou trop dégradés\, voire restaient sans réponse de leurs ayants droits. Et ma mémoire a assurément occulté beaucoup de bons films. \nCette rétrospective est principalement destinée aux jeunes réalisateur/trice-s et aux spectateur/trice-s passionné-e-s. Elle vise à mettre en écho l’animation que j’appellerais artisanale\, à celle que les producteurs et réalisateurs actuels se plaisent à nommer avec raison l’animation professionnelle.\nLa variété des films\, technique ou formelle a été également importante dans la composition de ces deux programmes. How could I choose from among thousands of films? And find copies of those films – and operable copies at that? It was a utopian endeavor\, and needless to say\, quite a challenge. The canonical Histoire de Monsieur Vieux-Bois from 1921 kicks things off. Directed by Lortac and Cavé\, it features drawings by Rodolphe Töpffer\, a forerunner of the ‘comics style’ in Europe.\nThe format switch in movie theaters from film reels in the 20th century to digital media in the 21st century\, along with the hypothetical transfer of films to file\, didn’t make this task any easier.\nThis selection is therefore totally subjective. Many more films should be on the list. It was impossible to find a good many of them\, others were too damaged\, and for still others we received no response from the film copyright holders. And my memory has surely overlooked a number of other worthy films. \nThis retrospective is mainly aimed at young filmmakers and film enthusiasts. It seeks to link together what I would call artisanal animation with what today’s producers and directors like to call professional animation\, and rightly so.\nThe variety of technical or formal films was also an important factor in compiling these two line-ups.
