The meeting’s montage will include various films and clips chosen by participants\, who were asked to present a work that has marked them and motivated them to become animation filmmakers. It’s also a celebration of 50 years of history and the occasion to ask contemporary questions about animation’s ability to tell stories differently\, to construct worlds of dreams and nightmares\, to allow people to see\, to imagine\, and to reflect. Le but était de rassembler le plus grand nombre d’animateurs/trices suisses pour donner à voir toute la variété du cinéma d’animation suisse contemporain et de permettre une diffusion ici et à l’étranger. \nIn order to honor the GSFA – Swiss Animation Association – for its 50th anniversary\, over 100 Swiss animators\, directors\, sound designers\, musicians and character designers were given “carte blanche” with no restrictions on style or content to create an animated omnibus film to be shown around Switzerland and abroad consisting of fifteen short films. Car comment faire un choix parmi plus de 1000 films et comment retrouver ces dites copies et dans quel état? Ceci s’annonçait comme une entreprise ardue voire utopique. Comme point de départ\, l’incontournable Histoire de Monsieur Vieux-Bois datant de 1921\, réalisé par Lortac et Cavé d’après les dessins de Rodolphe Töpffer\, précurseur du langage de la bande dessinée en Europe.\nLe changement de format au cinéma\, la rupture entre les films réalisés sur pellicule au 20ème siècle\, l’arrivée du digital au 21ème siècle et l’hypothétique transfert des films sur fichier ne facilitent certes pas la tâche. Cette sélection est donc totalement subjective. Bien plus de films devraient en faire partie. Beaucoup se sont avérés introuvables ou trop dégradés\, voire restaient sans réponse de leurs ayants droits. Et ma mémoire a assurément occulté beaucoup de bons films. \nCette rétrospective est principalement destinée aux jeunes réalisateur/trice-s et aux spectateur/trice-s passionné-e-s. Elle vise à mettre en écho l’animation que j’appellerais artisanale\, à celle que les producteurs et réalisateurs actuels se plaisent à nommer avec raison l’animation professionnelle.\nLa variété des films\, technique ou formelle a été également importante dans la composition de ces deux programmes. J’espère qu’ils vous éclaireront ou vous interrogeront sur l’évolution du cinéma d’animation. \nClaude Luyet \nLOOKING BACK ON SWISS ANIMATION\nAttempting to put together a retrospective of Swiss animation since its inception was truly a naive undertaking\, as I later came to realize. How could I choose from among thousands of films? And find copies of those films – and operable copies at that? It was a utopian endeavor\, and needless to say\, quite a challenge. The canonical Histoire de Monsieur Vieux-Bois from 1921 kicks things off. Directed by Lortac and Cavé\, it features drawings by Rodolphe Töpffer\, a forerunner of the ‘comics style’ in Europe.\nThe format switch in movie theaters from film reels in the 20th century to digital media in the 21st century\, along with the hypothetical transfer of films to file\, didn’t make this task any easier.\nThis selection is therefore totally subjective. Many more films should be on the list. It was impossible to find a good many of them\, others were too damaged\, and for still others we received no response from the film copyright holders. And my memory has surely overlooked a number of other worthy films. \nThis retrospective is mainly aimed at young filmmakers and film enthusiasts. It seeks to link together what I would call artisanal animation with what today’s producers and directors like to call professional animation\, and rightly so.\nThe variety of technical or formal films was also an important factor in compiling these two line-ups. Don’t miss this fascinating talk! \n\nD’origine italienne et allemande\, Daniele Zullino étudie la médecine à l’Université de Bâle et fait son doctorat sur les facteurs de risques familiaux sur l’addiction au tabac. Il poursuit sa formation à Bâle\, Königsfelden\, Zurich et Lausanne et obtient le titre de spécialiste FMH en psychiatrie et psychothérapie en 1997. Chef du Service d’addictologie du département de santé mentale et Psychiatrie des HUG dès 2005\, Daniele Zullino est nommé privat-docent en 2006 et chargé de cours en 2009. Son domaine d’expertise concerne les addictions et plus particulièrement l’évaluation et le traitement des comportements automatisés. Il collabore avec l’OMS\, notamment sur le développement et la validation d’instruments de dépistage et d’intervention addictologique précoce. \nDaniele Zullino is of Italian and German origin. He studied medicine at the University of Basel and did his doctorate on family risk factors for tobacco addiction. He continued his training in Basel\, Königsfelden\,Zurich and Lausanne and obtained the title of qualified specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy in 1997. Zullino has served as head of the Addiction Division of the Mental Health and Psychiatry Department at Geneva University Hospitals since 2005\, and was appointed Privatdozent in 2006 and lecturer in 2009. He specializes in addiction\, specifically the evaluation and treatment of automated behaviors. He also works with the World Health Organization on the development and testing of screening tools and on early intervention for addiction.

Car comment faire un choix parmi plus de 1000 films et comment retrouver ces dites copies et dans quel état? Ceci s’annonçait comme une entreprise ardue voire utopique. Comme point de départ\, l’incontournable Histoire de Monsieur Vieux-Bois datant de 1921\, réalisé par Lortac et Cavé d’après les dessins de Rodolphe Töpffer\, précurseur du langage de la bande dessinée en Europe.\nLe changement de format au cinéma\, la rupture entre les films réalisés sur pellicule au 20ème siècle\, l’arrivée du digital au 21ème siècle et l’hypothétique transfert des films sur fichier ne facilitent certes pas la tâche. Cette sélection est donc totalement subjective. Bien plus de films devraient en faire partie. Beaucoup se sont avérés introuvables ou trop dégradés\, voire restaient sans réponse de leurs ayants droits. Et ma mémoire a assurément occulté beaucoup de bons films. \nCette rétrospective est principalement destinée aux jeunes réalisateur/trice-s et aux spectateur/trice-s passionné-e-s. Elle vise à mettre en écho l’animation que j’appellerais artisanale\, à celle que les producteurs et réalisateurs actuels se plaisent à nommer avec raison l’animation professionnelle.\nLa variété des films\, technique ou formelle a été également importante dans la composition de ces deux programmes. J’espère qu’ils vous éclaireront ou vous interrogeront sur l’évolution du cinéma d’animation. \nClaude Luyet \nLOOKING BACK ON SWISS ANIMATION\nAttempting to put together a retrospective of Swiss animation since its inception was truly a naive undertaking\, as I later came to realize. How could I choose from among thousands of films? And find copies of those films – and operable copies at that? It was a utopian endeavor\, and needless to say\, quite a challenge. The canonical Histoire de Monsieur Vieux-Bois from 1921 kicks things off. Directed by Lortac and Cavé\, it features drawings by Rodolphe Töpffer\, a forerunner of the ‘comics style’ in Europe.\nThe format switch in movie theaters from film reels in the 20th century to digital media in the 21st century\, along with the hypothetical transfer of films to file\, didn’t make this task any easier.\nThis selection is therefore totally subjective. Many more films should be on the list. It was impossible to find a good many of them\, others were too damaged\, and for still others we received no response from the film copyright holders. And my memory has surely overlooked a number of other worthy films. \nThis retrospective is mainly aimed at young filmmakers and film enthusiasts. It seeks to link together what I would call artisanal animation with what today’s producers and directors like to call professional animation\, and rightly so.\nThe variety of technical or formal films was also an important factor in compiling these two line-ups. A l’origine\, c’est un instrument pour les bergers\, à qui l’on l’attribue la faculté d’apaiser le bétail et celle d’éloigner les mauvais esprits. Il sert aussi de moyen de communication entre les alpages et les vallées. Doté d’une sonorité chaude et ample\, le cor des alpes d’une longueur de quatre mètres peut être entendu à plusieurs kilomètres.\nRelié directement au contexte de la montagne\, il devient un des symboles de la Suisse. Il continue aujourd’hui à être largement pratiqué dans le cadre de concerts\, d’associations\, de concours etc.\nLoin de son utilisation traditionnelle\, Pascal Schaer et Ian Gordon Lennox accordent dans leur musique et dans leur interprétation une large part au groove et à l’improvisation. Avec la participation d’un percussionniste\, le duo proposera un répertoire mélangeant la musique traditionnelle suisse\, le jazz et les musiques actuelles. \nThe earliest remains of alpine horns date back to the 3rd century. It was originally an instrument for shepherds\, who purportedly used it to calm cattle and ward off evil spirits. The alphorn also serves as a means of communication between pastures and valleys. With its warm\, full-bodied sound\, a four-meter long alphorn can be heard kilometers away. Evoking a mountain setting\, the instrument has become one of the symbols of Switzerland. It continues to be widely played today by associations and in concerts and competitions.\nInstead of playing the alphorn in the traditional way\, Pascal Schaer and Ian Gordon Lennox accentuate groove and improvisation in their musical renditions. Together with a percussionist\, the duo will play a repertoire that mixes traditional Swiss sounds\, jazz and modern music.
