Ancré dans une morne ville industrielle, le lm suit Earl Grey, animateur d’une émission de radio ; Genny, une vieille fille qui prend soin de sa mère atteinte d’Alzheimer; et Victor Blue, le copain occasionnel de Genny, qui a de très grandes difficultés
à rester sobre. Un soir, sur le chemin du retour, Genny heurte sur l’autoroute une religieuse. L’accident déclenche une chaîne d’événements qui révèle une longue histoire tortueuse entre Genny, Earl et Victor, ainsi que des blessures anciennes… Premier long métrage de Christopher Sullivan, Consuming Spirits mit quinze ans à voir le jour. Tourné en 16 mm et animé image par image avec des éléments découpés et des dessins, Christopher Sullivan a entièrement signé la réalisation, la musique et la production de ce lm bouleversant et hypnotique.

Set in a dreary rustbelt town, the lm follows radio host Earl Gray; wilting violet Genny, who cares for her Alzheimer’s-stricken mother; and Genny’s sometime boyfriend Victor Blue, whose days teeter at the edge of sobriety. While driving home one evening, Genny hits a nun in full habit on the highway. The accident sets off a string of events that reveal a long and twisted history between Genny, Earl, and Victor and old wounds... Consuming Spirit , the first Christopher Sullivan’s feature length lm, was created over 15 years, frame by frame with cut out animation and drawings on paper, all shot on 16mm. Christopher Sullivan directed, produced and composed all by himself the music of this overwhelming and hypnotic movie.
