Swiss photographer Christian Lutz was born in 1973 and studied at the Ecole supérieure des Arts de l’Image, “Le 75” in Brussels. His politically engaged approach to photography is grounded in a scrupulous, quasi-sociological observation of human groups. Lutz’s work deconstructs the wheels of power and how they are turned, from politicians caught in the arti ce of ceremonial exercises to economic elites who invest in developing countries. He rst explored the workings of political power in Protokoll, then economic power in Tropical Gift, and nally religious power in In Jesus’ Name. His recent series of photographs taken in Las Vegas, Insert Coins, exposes the cracks in a society founded on illusion and the all-powerful entertainment industry.
